The following pages in this section tell you all about our IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driving and Advanced Motorcycling Courses.
The page is currently being updated. More information will be available as soon as possible.
How it works
IAM Roadsmart advanced driving assistance is open to everyone over the age of 17 who holds a valid full UK car licence.
Separate arrangements are available for motorbike licence holders wishing to participate in advanced motorbike training - See the menu above.
Once you have joined as an associate member of the IAM Roadsmart by either contacting www.iamroadsmart.com or the membership secretary you will be allocated to an observer and the observer will offer you a demo drive.
Training will then start with a series of Observed Runs in your own car with your nominated observer. During the observed runs you will receive guidance and coaching on safe advanced driving techniques. You will be offered as many runs as you need to get you to the standard required so you are more than ready for your test.
When you are ready an Advanced Driving test will be booked for you through IAM Roadsmart and an examiner will be allocated who will contact you to arrange for a mutually convenient time and date for your test. All examiners are serving or retired class 1 police officers.
On successfully passing the test you will become a full member of both IAM Roadsmart and the Inverness group.
You will be encouraged to become further involved with IAM by becoming a local observer within the group.
Cost: £149, which includes the associate’s handbook, the test fees and membership to both the local group for 1 year, and IAM Roadsmart.
Many other benefits are available which may include discounts on insurance and other motoring organisations.
See www.iamroadsmart.com for further details.
